  • Vinum restaurant & wine bar is probably, with Casa da Cha in Boa Nova, the two most beautiful restaurants in Porto. Both have an incredible view.

Vinum used to belong to the world famous Port producer the Graham family and now belongs to the Symington family who continue to produce the best Ports and Douro wines in the region.

When they decided to launch a bold new restaurant project, they looked for co-investors with similar values, which they found with the Sagardi family, the ideal creative partners who share their dedication to gastronomy and wine. The Sagardis have a famous empire in Spain, they reign over 32 restaurants in the country, mainly in the Basque region.

Vinum restaurant & wine bar is a perfect setting for a lunch or dinner with family and/or friends. There are tables in the veranda with a stunning view over the vineyards and the Douro, but the customers can also sit in the main dining room next to Graham’s Port’s fully functioning 19th century cellars.

In terms of food and wines, they have a traditional menu at 50 euros for six dishes which is a very good price. But, for our lunch on July 16th, 2021 we chose à la carte.

Our entry, the clams from Ria Formosa Bulhão Pato style —Algarve was a delicious, mouth-watering dish. It was so good that our son ate half the dish. Our main dishes, the calamari rice with black ink; the red mullet with shrimp bisque and zucchini flower; the "Vaca velha" filet mignon with grilled vegetables; and the grilled duck magret with foie gras and fresh caramelized onions were all very well cooked and flavorsome. Finally, for dessert, the pineapple from the Azores caramelized in the oven, Graham's 20-Year-Old Tawny Port and coconut ice cream stood out and was a very satisfying final touch to our meal.

The wine list is extraordinary and very affordable too. Just reading the wine list was a delight actually.

The service in French was impeccable and very nice.

Vinum restaurant & wine bar at Graham's cave is a knock-out in terms of setting and top notch in terms of food, wine and service. A kind of place we wish we can keep it to ourselves.

  • Casa de Cha is probably one the most beautiful restaurants in Portugal with a stunning view. This restaurant is perched on the seafront in Matoshinos, an area in the north of Porto, but once we sat inside, it seemed that we were in another world.

Casa de Cha is home to one of the stars of the Portuguese cuisine: Rui Paula.

For our dinner on Saturday July 18th, 2021, first we had to show our sanitary pass stating that we were fully vaccinated in order to be let in the restaurant.

Once seated, we were able to discover the incredible view over the ocean. Our maître d'hôte, Igor rapidly took care of us, explained to us how we could choose the menu, and how many dishes we wished to eat. We all went for six and then the chef decided which ones, in order for us to have the best culinary experience.

All the dishes served were very good, tasty, and well cooked, from Oyster/Tuna to Crawfish/Korean Soup except… for the Scallop/Tapioca. The scallop was overcooked, and the presentation was not well conceived. In our opinion, the tapioca had no place in there and its texture did not add anything to the rest. We mentioned that to Rui Paul who came to see if everything had been OK for us at the end of our meal. The chef’s reaction was immediate: he took Little Boboon to his kitchen and introduced me to his sous-chef, asking me to tell her myself why we did not like the Scallop/Tapioca dish.

The wine list is amazing, as it should be in a two-Michelin star restaurant. The offer “by the glass” is huge and affordable. We had a Murganheira “Blanc de Noirs” 2010 which was excellent.

The service by Igor was impeccable, nice, warm and welcoming.

As we always mention throughout our travel experiences and critics, a two or three-Michelin star restaurant should be a perfect experience in every way. Overall, our experience at Casa de Cha was pretty nice: stunning view, great wine, nice service, and the food was good. Some dishes even very good but not outstanding, which was what we actually expected from such a renowned chef with two Michelin stars.

  • Vasco Coelho Santos is the chef that every gourmet should visit. His restaurant Euskalduna Studio is a destination in itseft.

The chef and his talented team will welcome you like a friend in his studio, By the way, you ring the bell at the door in order to be opened and welcomed by the chef and his team.

Inside the restaurant you be seated at either on the counter or at the two tables near the entrance.

The chef has modeled his restaurant like a kaiseki restaurant in Japan where he traveled durng two months and half to discover Japanese culture and its culinary richness.

The dinner menu was composed of ten dishes, you have the choice to look at every dish to be served or to be surprised by flipping the welcoming card giving to the guess.

We are not going to mention every dish, but each dish served was well balanced in terms of tastes and flavor; and most of all perfectly cooked and proportionated.

There were few dishes that really stand out for us was the rabbit in a fried ravioli and a revisited Christmas Portuguese pudding. The cooking of Vasco Coelho Santos is highly creative and inventive, extremely well thought.

The wine list is very interesting with a superb offer on regional and local goodies.

The service was impeccable, very instructive and very nice.

Euskalduna Studio is a must visit when you are in Porto and Vasco Coelho Santos represents a new generation of chefs who are smarts, thoughtful, connected to their environments and well traveled.
